Chris Madigan"Dream Memories, Paris & The South of France"Walpole, New Hampshire, United States
Artist’s Statement: “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” – Marcel Proust I love Paris, wine, travel and photography. In July 2006 I returned to France with friends and family to explore and share food, wine, places I love and many adventures. I also wanted to grow as a photographic artist and to this end I bought two pinhole cameras using them to photograph in a new and freer manner. There is a softer focus and a greater depth of field in pinhole photographs and a sense of mystery in part due to the longer exposures required.
Willie Anne Wright, Craig J. Barber, Edward Levinson"Ever Present Past"Chemnitz, Germany
We proudly present the first gathering of these outstanding artists. The theme for these exhibition is "Ever Present Past". The picture language is completely black & white. The artists are presenting the "special core" of their own works. We have planed the exhibition at around 90 up to 120 pictures. It's our biggest photography show since the establishment of the gallery! Our goal is to bring pinhole photography nearer to the peoples and of course give a chance for American/Japanese Photographer to exhibit their works in Germany for the first time ever!

The deadline for sending an application is March 31, 2009. Works from foreign authors will be sent back if the authors cover the costs of sending. In other case the photographs will remain in the Festival's archive.
"Who would believe that so small a space could contain the image of all the universe? O mighty process! What talent can avail to penetrate a nature such as these? What tonque will it be that can unfold so great a wonder? Verily, none! This it is that guides the human discource to the considering of divine things. Here the figures, here the colors, here all the images of every part of the universe are contracted to a point. O what a point is so marvelous!"
- Leonardo da Vinci

A colour pinhole photo I took in 1971 has just been published in a new coffee table book titled 'Shrouds of the Night'. It's a comprehensive history of Astronomy and Photography and is available on Amazon. The authors are David Block and Kenneth Freeman and published by Springer. The still life photo was taken using cibachrome paper with a 2 hour exposure and research shows this could be one of the first known colour pinhole photos.
Happy new year to visitors and subscribers to the Pinhole News. This message is boringly technical, but I wanted to point out a couple of recent changes to the web site. The "Pinhole News" eNewsletter has a slightly new face. But more importantly, it now supports both HTML and plain text in email programs. If your email reader supports HTML, you will see the visually enhanced version of the eNewsletter. But if your email reader supports plain text only, you will see a plain text version. You don't need to do anything, as this should be handled automatically by your email reader. Free subscriptions to the Pinhole News are available here:
